World Champion Wealth Management

Jon Gildea has retired from the Great Britain Cycling Team Paralympic programme to focus on helping his clients – including pro athletes – with their financial wellbeing and wealth management.

Having claimed two world titles on the track, and four additional world championship medals, Jon has decided that after 10 years on the Paralympic programme that now is the time to step away from professional racing and focus on his other business – financial planning at Money & Mortgages.

Jon has been working with mortgage clients as a specialist mortgage adviser for the last 20 years writing over 100 mortgages worth around £30m in lending in the last year alone.

“As my clients are moving through their financial journey, I’ve seen the need to support them with their retirement and investment plans.  This involves helping to raise awareness of financial wellbeing and helping people to understand what they want from their money”, Jon said.

The first few months of the year are very busy for financial advisers as they look at financial planning opportunities between now and April for the tax year end 2022/23.  Jon enjoys helping UK Sport funded athletes with their financial wellbeing, in particular.

“The fact that the most productive part of your career and earning potential as a professional athlete will be concentrated in a limited window makes long-term financial planning challenging – but crucial.  Many of my clients are Limited Company Directors – who like pro athletes – have a unique opportunity to build wealth, plan for retirement and establish a legacy for themselves, and their families.”

Making sure that clients are maximising their pension contributions is a cornerstone of good financial planning and the benefits are especially valuable for workers in the 40 per cent and 45 per cent income tax brackets.  Not every client’s situation is simple, there’s often a lot more to consider and things can get very complicated.  Therefore, advisers clearly have an instrumental role to play in helping clients ensure their pension savings end up in the most appropriate home.

Jon will be working closely with the Money & Mortgages financial planning team in 2023 and is working towards his Chartered status like co-founder of Money & Mortgages Marc Harrison.  Working with you, Money & Mortgages use the latest cashflow modelling technology to help to build a personalised financial plan for your life.
