Money & Mortgages is delighted to welcome Alan Nadin as Head of Operations and New Business Development. We would like to introduce you to Alan who brings with him a wealth of experience and an excellent track record. Over to Alan to introduce himself in his own words…
Networking and staying in touch has never been as important as it is today. None-more so than relating to my own situation, where a change of my work status on LinkedIn and a catch-up phone call to my long-standing friend; Marc Harrison (Partner at Money & Mortgages) resulted in a fantastic opportunity, helping to shape, mould and grow such a vibrant, boutique, Wealth Management and Mortgage brokerage – Money & Mortgages.
The catch-up call with Marc was so well timed for us all. Marc, Jon, Paul and the whole M&M team have been extremely welcoming. They moved quickly and came in with the right brief, which made the decision to join very easy indeed. We all share sporting interests in common; Marc helps run and is also a long-standing Grassroots Football coach at Turton FC (one of the oldest and respected Amateur clubs in the North West); Jon is a retired double world champion Paracyclist for Team GB; and Paul a highly experienced L2 Grassroots Rugby Coach. In my spare time I’m a grassroots Football coach UEFA C badge equivalent, managing U21 and Club Welfare Officer, plus other roles! There is something in that shared passion for people development and performance that brings us together and I would say there is definitely a deeply shared, dry (and at times, wicked) sense of humour, which is good for the soul! Crucially, we all share an overriding desire to provide our clients with the very best outcomes.
My role of Head of Operations and New Business Development (Ops Manager for short) has many different layers attached to it. Effecting change within our processes and practices, client relationship management (IT) systems, ensuring day to day smooth business operation, recruitment, mentoring fantastic brokers and mortgage admin within the office. Developing new business partners and introducers, and working alongside those partners, plus our network to develop and grow the business through organic and dynamic opportunities. I’m sure there are other bits n bobs to add!
I’ve been involved with Financial Services at junior and senior levels since 1987. I started in banking for 7 years and over the following 16 years I’ve operated within a mixture of financial planning, residential and commercial finance brokerages. I then enjoyed the last 14 years as a National Business Development Manager working in Commercial property.
I missed the hustle and bustle of financial services, but was initially tentative about stepping back in, having been out for a while. I have developed other management and mentoring skills since and felt that was a route I would prefer to develop further. Being impactful and a positive influence within a business yields exponential returns on so many levels. The skills to learn and implement them well mean so much to the success of staff development, satisfaction and retention. I am thankful that I have the free licence, support and encouragement of the Partners to develop the role and ultimately the whole of what we do. We also enjoy the support of professional training and advisory services of Openwork to complement our journey.
My first month or so has literally flown by. It’s been a little bit of ‘hair on fire’ with the amount of changes that we’re implementing, but it will all be worth it and it will bear fruit during the next few months. Every day brings a different challenge but the team know change is coming and we are ready. I feel completely energised by working here, as a 53-year-old veteran – I cannot stop talking about it exhaustively to my friends and family. Not only have I been fortunate to join a great company with an exciting future but get to do that alongside long-standing friends.
Having experienced a heart attack two years ago, I always stress the importance of financial protection to those around me, whether that be in terms of money, family or business. Thankfully I’m still upright and having had the foresight to set up a critical illness protection plan. I am an example that it can happen to anyone, but you can mitigate financially against the effect. I could wax-lyrical for days about the importance of financial planning, especially in such odd and eventful times and balance that with some living in the moment, but I will finish with this- if you have an opportunity to start a business, join a business, to work with people you actually like and respect, to help shape and add value to a business, whether financially, or investing your time and experience into developing staff, do it, grab those opportunities – now! Do it, take action today.
Time is all we have at the end of the day, spend it wisely and despite the days where you may feel stress with what is on your plate, try your best to find some joy! Laugh and smile every day, if you can, it will keep you going, it will help others around you, more than you know.
Now……did I tell you the one about we do Wealth Management and Mortgages?… sorry I can’t help myself!
Have a great day.
